Whisky Range
Each piece shows the former life and history of the timber, once bent shaped and formed by the cooper into oak casks for the whisky industry.
These same casks are now reborn as doors for drinks cabinets, backs for carver chairs and inlay details in tables.
A blend of rough and refined, we have kept this furniture solid and natural. Celebrating the flaws and features of the character oak along with the texture surfaces and sweeping curves of the cask staves.
Retired whisky casks
Once a whisky cask has been used a certain number of times to mature whisky, the distillery will retire the cask.
Although the inside of the cask is burnt to leave a charcoal layer which makes the whisky smoother and more mellow, it is actually the non-burnt outside of the stave you are looking at when you view the blackened doors of the cabinets, or the staves used in the construction of the tables.
The outside of the cask takes on this hue as a result of the whisky maturation process and the long years spent sitting in warehouses throughout Scotland maturing.
When we finish and lacquer spray the doors they take on the rich dark brown colour you see in the photos.

Rough & Refined
Top and base are interlocked in a mortise and tenon style fitting with the ends left slightly proud as a design feature. In stark contrast to the robust nature of the frame, the door handles are smooth and clean sweeping, themselves delicately beautiful.
The sides and top are made from the same 2" thick slab of solid character oak. It is deliberately left in it's natural off-saw form meaning that it retains a rough, tactile texture. The boards themselves haven't been machined completely flat or square.

No Delicate Flower
This cabinet is more highly finished than it's rustic counterpart Cask 14 Oak Cabinet, with all surfaces given our 3 coat lacquer sprayed finish.
Don't let it's delicate looks deceive you though - it is anything but. The tapered feet of the table legs makes this piece a lot 'finer' than it's sister cabinet, but it still a very strong and robust cabinet - as you'll see when you try and lift it up, it is sturdy and very solid. It is made from the very best character oak.

Spectacular Design Distillation
The centre piece of the table is a device made from an arrangement of sliced of staves of retired whisky casks formed into a mosaic layout combining the notched cask staves into a circular, almost Celtic, device as the table's centrepiece.
The oak has been carefully machined by our craftsmen to taper the legs and the chair back from rounded circles down into fine ellipses. The blackened outer side of the cask wood is used sparingly to create the colour contrast and the burnt, inner side of the cask has been left in places for effect.
